Children share their emotions with people they feel safe with heart.

Children do not have the neurological ability to control their emotional reactions (this is a skill that is learned & developed over time).

So children “sharing their emotions” can look like talking about their feelings, but it can also look like tears, angry outbursts, emotional meltdowns, tantrums, back-talking, rolling their eyes, slammed doors…

If they are sharing these emotions & behaviors in your presence, it means they feel safe with you.

This doesn’t mean that we should allow our children to behave however they want; as each time is a small opportunity to continue to teach them how to more appropriately express their emotions.

But only to keep in mind on the exhausting days of navigating one emotional moment after the other…

Remember that this experience means your child feels safe with you.

And that is the most important thing you can do
